I went to the Bob Saget Roast for Comedy Central last night. When I arrived at Warner Brothers, I immediately 'walked' the red carpet and was photographed by the throngs of media that attended. Then when Bob Saget, John Stamos, Lori Loughlin, Jodie Sweetin and I finished, we stood together as the media frenzied photographers captured members of the "Full House" family. I'm sure the 'rag mags' will be filled with plenty of shots of us right around the time the roast airs on Comedy Central on August 17.
It's always so great to my fellow castmates from the show, even though I had dinner with John this past week, and then Jodie came over to my house on Saturday for enchiladas.

After we took photos and did various interviews with radio, TV and Internet media outlets, we were ushered inside Stage 15 to be seated for the show. Jodie, Lori and I were seated at the same table so the Comedy Central crew could get reaction shots of us during the show. The show started with a video retrospective of Bob's career with plenty of cuts to Full House footage. After the video, John Stamos was introduced as the host. Then Bob was introduced and everyone stood to give him a standing ovation. John stood at the podium and introduced the comedians (roasters) on the dais. They included Jeffrey Ross, Greg Giraldo, Susie Essman, Norm Macdonald, Gilbert Gottfried, Jon Lovitz, Jim Norton, Brian Posehn, Jeff Garlin and Cloris Leachman. Cloris Leachman? More on her in a minute.
John did a couple jokes about Bob (and me) which were quite funny. John finished and Greg Giraldo was first up. And I must say, he was really funny. In fact, he was so funny that I thought it was going to be really tough for any of the comedians to follow him. But one comedian after another wielded verbal punches at the other comedians on the dais, and along the way, threw tons of insults at John, Bob, Mary Kate and Ashley, Jodie (and me)...and during the entire two-hour performance, a camera was planted at our table, getting those reaction shots of me, Lori and Jodie. Sometimes the shots had us howling with laughter, and others catching our looks of shock and disgust. Norm Macdonald came onstage and read old jokes from index cards and no one could figure out if he was making fun of the entire roasting process, or if he just wanted to bomb on purpose. Anyway, it wasn't very funny, and I think alot of people expected Norm to be a highlight.
Some other highlights of the night were Gilbert Gottfried, and my personal favorite, Cloris Leachman. Cloris Leachman? Yes, Cloris Leachman--82 years young, winner of 8 Emmy awards, a Golden Globe and an Oscar. She was brilliant and received the only standing ovation amongst the roasters. Everyone loved her candor, and an innocent approach to roasting Bob. And at the end of her performance, John Stamos met her at the podium and gave her a kiss that seemed to last forever. Once Bob was finished being roasted, he took to the stage and gave everyone a tongue-lashing of his own. The audience then stood up and cheered for Bob and the evening's festivities.
I've been to some roasts before, but nothing compares to how filthy and funny this was. And although I chose not to perform (yes, I was asked to but declined. my brand of clean comedy would've been very out of place at this roast), I still wanted to support Bob and my fellow Full House castmates. I knew going-in that it was going to be raunchy, but all roasts are...not to the degree of this one though. The editors at Comedy Central will have to use the 'bleep button' a thousand times for the cable broadcast, but the DVD will be uncut. All in all, Bob was extremely happy that we were there to support him.
And Cloris Leachman...she just might have a new career as a standup comedian.
